May 2008

  • Wow, not a lot happened in the first half of the year!
  • But this is what DID happen (and all pretty recently, too):
    • My second costume piece created for St. Vincent dePaul Society's annual Discarded to Divine event sold for $350.
    • Somewhere, right now, someone is reading A Year and a Day.  I have it being pimped out for reprints from here to the great blue yonder and I am still getting reviews on Amazon
    • And last but certainly not least...
      • I have been signed on for a novella with Apex Books! The release date is not set, but it is slated to be out in Spring of 2009. You can read the Apex release post here.  You can read my LiveJournal post about it here. And you can connect to my blog post about it here.  There we go, I think that covers it. Of course it is mentioned on my Amazon blog, my MySpace, and my Facebook as well.  Just in case you wanted to go play over there as well.  Feel free to friend me at either site, the more the merrier!

January 2008

  • Happy New Year!
  •  Twilight and Thorns is out for YOUR pleasure! Download your copy today!
  • Also, my first ever costume reference book has also been published! If you are a librarian or a school or just want to drop $350 on a completely well-written set of costume history encyclopedias, do check here.  My name is not listed there, but Jill Condra was my editor and I am the primary contributor...it should say that somewhere...I hope.
  • I have also updated my events calendar! I may be coming soon to a convention near you!
  • And on the wedding front..I have a beautiful uchikake (wedding kimono) and a fabulous dress. A gorgeous corset on order from Dark Garden.  The food and cake has been tasted and orders have been placed. Wow...it is really becoming a reality now!

December 2007

  •  Coming December 1st!

  • Click HERE to order on Saturday!! Or just drop an email to the Circle Dark staff!

November 2007

  • Another busy month blows right by me.  Let me give you the break down:
    • You can join me in an Authors' Chat for the upcoming e-anthology from Circle Dark Publishing, Twilight and Thorns on Friday November 30th at 7pm CST.  Click here for the direct Java-enabled chat room link. Or find the "CDP Chat" link at the bottom of their homepage!
    • I was the costume assistant for Belmont University's Christmas at Belmont show, for a dance number called "Lux Arumque."  It is #11 on the program.   Christmas at Belmont will be broadcast locally in Nashville (and surrounding areas) on December 20th at 8pm CST.  It will be broadcast NATIONWIDE on PBS December 24th at 9pm CST and also again on the 25th (but you'll have to check your local listings for that!)  This will be the first time I have ever made costumes that will be seen on national television. *squee!*  (And if you click the link, you'll see a pic of the dresses I made...bottom center, a group of girls looking like angels dressed in spun gold! *MORE SQUEE!*)
    • No word yet on Seven Times a Woman being picked up, but queries continue apace and I won't rest until I succeed!
    • Other costuming projects continue. My freelancery keeps me downright busy.  Click here for details about my one-of-a-kind wearable art piece created for Catherynne M. Valente's gallery show of various pieces based off her Orphan's Tales books. And now I must go sew a cloak for said authoress! At tis rate, I shall soon be as famous for costuming as I am for writing!
    • Wedding plans continue...now that I have a skoshe more time on my little hands, I can actually be a bit more active in it! 10 months til the big day!!

October 2007

  • UPDATE 10/19/07:  On October 17th, I received a packet of documents from my publisher, Premium Press America in Nashville, TN, relinquishing my publication rights back to me.  I also took possession of all remaining stock of books. So, if anyone would like to purchase a copy directly from me...go ahead and drop me a line and I would be happy to get one out to you as soon as possible!  Thanks everyone for all your support and assistance over these last, grueling six months!
  • I'm getting married! *SQUEEE!!* Matt proposed to me at Pi-Con! And WHAT A RING! We are currently looking at tying the knot in September 2008 in NorCal.
  • Currently, I am wedding dress shopping. After helping out with so many other weddings, it is most surreal for me to be planning my own. 0_O
  • This September was eaten alive my freelance costume writing and sewing projects.  If you are interested in more personal-type stuff do check out my personal blog, The Merry Adventures of Saraphina, if you'd like! I will endeavor to keep my professional blog up to date with some news as well. Now that I have more than two minutes to rub together.
  • I will have my short story, "The Muse," featured in Circle Dark Publishing's debut anthology Twilight and Thorns.  It will be out in December, just in time for winter holidays!
  • At this point, with my fiction publishing up in the air, I have very few firm convention appearances scheduled. I WILL be at Hypericon in Nashville in June 2008.  I will be promoting Twilight and Thorns and I will be speaking on costume history. Either corsets or kimono...not sure which yet.  ^_^  I will also be appearing at Pi-Con...because I love them. And we are having a swanky "wedding party" there next August!
  • Here in Nashville, I continue to lead ghost tours downtown and will through Halloween.
  • Happy Samhain, everyone.  Enjoy the autumn season!

August 2007

  • I haven't updated in forever, I know. I apologize!
  • My publisher, Premium Press America is in serious financial trouble and had remaindered all my books. So if you see a copy of A Year and a Day for sale, GRAB IT! I have plans to take it to a new publisher whenever I get the rights back, but it might take a while.
  • That said, Seven Times a Woman is no longer coming out anytime soon. But that book is currently under review by several potential buyers. Think happy thoughts for me!!
  • I am up to my eyeballs in teaching, costume commissions, and freelance non-fiction writing.
  • I will be at 2Pi-Con THIS WEEKEND, 10-12 August!

March 2007

  • My convention schedule is getting filled! Check out my calendar page for details!
  • Seven Times a Woman is currently under publishing consideration with Premium Press America's mass market partner!
  • March is my birthday month! Yup, I'm a Pisces! Year of the Dragon, too! ^_^
